Global Spring Water Company, Canada
Clients Business
Spring water extraction and transfer from Well Head to Tanker Loading
Purpose of System
To reduce high volumes of expensive cleaning chemicals required for a 1 mile long 6 inch pipeline. Most of pipe run is HPDE and is underground. Above ground the pipe reverts to stainless steel.
System Design
HPS Pigs are used to separate 500 gallon phases of water or cleaning chemicals. Each Pig is loaded manually into a specially designed Launcher then injected into the line with 500 gallons of water or cleaning chemicals behind it. When loading is complete there is a total of 7 x 6 inch Pigs in use at the same time all being propelled by a final phase of pumped water, which eventually pushes all Pigs into a Multi-Pig Receiver.
The pigging process is controlled via an Allen Bradley Micrologix 1500 with an Allen Bradley HMI for operator controls.
Sequence of events
- Pig 1 followed by 500 gallons of water
- Pig 2 followed by 500 gallons of water mixed with cleaning chemical 1
- pig 3 followed by 500 gallons of water
- Pig 4 followed by 500 gallons of water mixed with cleaning chemical 2
- pig 5 followed by 500 gallons of water
- Pig 6 followed by 500 gallons of water mixed with cleaning chemical 3
- Pig 7 which is pushed with water until it reaches the pig receiver
All water is pumped at 20 gallons per minute or 40 psi pumping pressure. This speed was selected as a 30 second chemical contact time was required for all parts of the pipeline.
