We’re proud to announce that, as part of the Make UK Manufacturing Awards 2023, we have been shortlisted as regional finalists for the Energy and Sustainability Category in the Midlands & East region!

The Energy and Sustainability Award has been developed by Make UK to recognise companies that have worked towards improving overall environmental performance and enhancing sustainability.

In the past 2 years, we’ve increased our commitment to improving our company’s sustainability, as well as demonstrating how our products help clients to improve their sustainability.

In August 2022, we released an independent report from Carbon-Zero, detailing how HPS Advanced Liquid Product Recovery (Pigging) Technology helps manufacturers cut their carbon emissions by up to 99.3% per changeover.

Although the study was done using data from a paint and coatings manufacturer, we are confident that the environmental outcome is consistent across all industries that manufacture liquids.

Read the Carbon-Zero Report here.

If your company would like a report done to assess how HPS pigging technology helps you to improve your environmental sustainability, get in touch and we’ll help you to arrange this!

In January 2023, we began working towards the Investors in the Environment Bronze Accreditation. We are now preparing for our final audit before achieving the accreditation.

The Investors in the Environment Bronze Accreditation requires a commitment to setting targets for a reduction in energy consumption, water consumption, and waste output.

Additionally, companies that are working towards accreditation also take part in social and environmental projects. At HPS, we ran a campaign to make food donations to The Trussell Trust and implemented a company Mental Health and Wellbeing plan, including the training of three mental health first aiders.

We are incredibly happy to have been shortlisted for this award and we look forward to attending the Regional dinner in November!

Our Technology

Have you ever asked yourself, “What is pigging?” HPS pigging technology is used by manufacturers around the world to recover residual products from pipelines during product or batch changeovers. It’s typically used in process industries that transfer products through pipelines between 1.5” and 8” diameter.

Pigging works by propelling a specialist projectile (the ‘pig’) through the pipeline. The pig is a precise interference fit in the pipeline and pushes the residual product to the destination (storage tank, filler, or next stage of the process). The HPS pig typically recovers 99.5% of residual liquid from full pipelines. Without pigging, the residual product would usually be lost as flush waste or effluent.

How Pigging Technology Helps CSR Initiatives

There are many benefits of pigging, especially when it comes to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives into operations and processes.

HPS pigging technology enables companies to reduce energy consumption, water and/or chemical usage, and waste and effluent. This creates a decreased risk of environmental contamination and pollution, increased water conservation, and reduced pressure on energy companies to produce energy using fossil fuels.

The environmental benefits of pigging also have financial implications – less money is spent on water and energy bills, and effluent storage, transport, and treatment.
