WHAT PROCESS PIGS DO

The term “Pigging” refers to the operation of forcing a flexible projectile (called a Pig), through a product transfer pipeline. Because the pig diameter is slightly larger than the internal pipe diameter, it forces the product along the pipe, cleaning the pipe as it goes and leaving very little, if any, residue. Pigs need to be magnetic to enable detection, automation and control.

High Quality, Long Lasting Pigs in a Range of Sizes

We manufacture our process pigs in a range of sizes: from 1 inch to 8 inches diameter. All HPS pigs are bi-directional, which is a major advantage in pigging system design and process efficiency. They are extremely high-quality, robust and long-lasting: they can be used many times without replacement. Their silicone-based construction gives the pigs a long working life expectancy, and they can be steam cleaned (cleaned in place or “CIP’d” if required) to 250°C without degradation. Our hygienic pigs are also made from material that meets the requirements of FDA regulations.

Custom Pipeline Pig Design and Manufacture

We have a wide range of pigs and pipeline pigging products for different pipe specifications and diameters. We also manufacture them in different materials, depending on the application. There are two basic categories of pig:

  • Hygienic Pigs –  specially designed for food, soft drinks, wine, beer and other beverages, chocolate, confectionery as well as other hygienic (sanitary) applications in home and personal care applications, including products with silicone oil content.
  • Fluorosilicone Pigs – These pigs have a higher resilience to more aggressive chemicals

We design all our sanitary pigging systems and product recovery solutions to the specific needs of our clients, so we will help recommend the right type and size of pig for your pipeline size and application.

Fully Detectable Magnetized Pigs

Our pigs are magnetic, but unlike other magnetic pig designs do not contain any solid magnets (solid magnets are a safety and contamination risk). Instead, the internal core of HPS magnetic pigs contains flexible magnetized silicone that allows it to be detected in the pipe non-intrusively, using a specifically designed HPS Pig Detector. What’s more, because our pig detectors being mount externally, it is quick, easy and cost-effective to add them to existing pipework.

As well as locating the pigs, a non-intrusive pig detection system using magnetised pigs enables semi and full pigging system automation, which can provide massive increases in efficiency and productivity.

Flexible – Can Travel Around 90 Degree Bends

The innovative, flexible design of HPS pigs enables them to travel through standard 1.5D 90 degree bends.
