HPS Gears Up for National Bike Week!

Bike Week 2017 – Be Part of it!

We’re excited to announce that HPS are taking part in Bike Week 2017. The event will kick off on Monday 12th June and will finish on Friday 16th June, and will involve HPHPS Bike Week 2017S staff members cycling to and from work.  A link to the HPS event can be found here.

Bike Week is an annual UK-wide event to promote the benefits of cycling, and to show how easily it can be incorporated into everyday life.

Demonstrating the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling, the week aims to encourage people throughout the UK to give cycling a try, whether it be for fun, visiting friends, commuting to work or going to the local shops.

At HPS we are committed to minimising the environmental impacts of our business. That’s why we regularly run sustainability initiatives and encourage low carbon modes of travel where possible.

Benefits of Cycling to Work

So, what are the benefits of cycling to work?

Cycling is a healthy, cost-effective, environmentally-friendly and fun way to get to work. Health benefits can include lower blood pressure, increased cardiovascular fitness, boosts of energy, decreased stress levels and improved joint mobility.

Because cycling uses no fuel, it’s also the cheapest means of transportation next to walking. And let’s not forget about the important environmental benefits. Cycling produces no emissions and also reduces traffic congestion and the need for harmful fuels. It’s been estimated that a four-mile commute to and from work would save an astonishing half a tonne of CO2 each year. That’s five per cent of the average UK carbon footprint!

Safety is Key

Cycling to work has many benefits, however it’s important that it’s done safely. That’s why we’ll be ensuring staff at HPS are wearing a helmet and high visibility clothing for the journey. Also, we’ll be encouraging staff to be sensible around traffic and to carry a puncture repair kit and mobile phone if possible.
